A First Nations community can access nalaxone/narcan in a number of ways.
An individual can generally go to any pharmacy and ask for a take-home kit. Almost all pharmacies will give at no cost a kit, and sometimes more than one kit. A First Nations status card holder can generally access 10 take-home kits at a time.
Respect RX West Pharmasave and Respect RX East in Ottawa have at times couriered out large shipments of narcan/nalaxone to communities in crisis, with the confidential receipt of status cards for NIHB records. Note that Narcan/Nalaxone supply can also be affected by supply chain issues.
